MY STORY
Breaking Barriers: How I Turn Resistance into Inclusivity — and How You Can Too
Early in my career, I encountered a common challenge in the corporate world: the slow pace of change within entrenched bureaucracies. Despite my passion for diversity and inclusion, my initiatives were often thwarted by outdated practices and resistance.
One notable project involved introducing a diversity and inclusion initiative within a government department. Although I had a well-researched strategy and clear evidence of its benefits, I faced significant pushback. Key stakeholders were reluctant to abandon traditional methods, and there was noticeable tension between established norms and my new ideas.
Drawing on my education and leadership training from top UK universities, I tackled these challenges strategically. I engaged stakeholders in one-on-one conversations, listened to their concerns, and shared successful examples from other organisations.
Over time, as they saw incremental improvements, their resistance turned into curiosity and support. The project, initially at risk of failure, ultimately became a benchmark for improved workplace inclusivity and collaboration.
This experience underscored the value of persistence, strategic thinking, and empathetic leadership. It reinforced my commitment to diversity and inclusion and my belief that every voice matters.
Your organisation may face similar obstacles, but with tailored strategies and a deep understanding of organisational dynamics, I can help you overcome these barriers and create a more inclusive and dynamic workplace.
